Azure Market Share

Of all the cloud providers, Azure is certainly the fastest growing, making big inroads into the AWS market share. It has over 200 different products allowing corporations to operate seamlessly on the Microsoft platform. As most companies are already invested in the Microsoft eco-system with Windows desktops, or virtualised environments with Hyper-V as well as Microsoft servers, Azure is a logical cloud provider to choose for many customers. Also, there can be significant savings in costs for existing clients with Microsoft software licenses, so the truth is businesses can’t afford to live without Azure, for example moving to a pay-as-you-go model in the cloud rather than an a costly server in a data centre can be significantly cheaper for clients. Azure offers Security Centre for management and an advisory based on criticality as well as an Azure score for that, which exemplifies the security state.  There is also Azure AD MFA, Conditional Access, AD Identity Protection and AD PIM. Azure also has its own SIEM software known as Sentinel, where it not only alerts and notifies of threats, but also hunts for threats.

Azure Scalability & Microservices

Azure’s ability to scale based upon certain metrics such as system workload, is also a major incentive to migrate to Azure Cloud. This feature allows additional resources to be assigned to the given IaaS or PaaS services e.g. with scale sets, additional VMs can be created when the CPU load is exceeded, and similarly the VMs can be scaled down when the CPU has lowered, the converse is also true ie scale upwards. This allows companies to only scale when required and not allocate surplus resources in the event a server has a spike in demand, as in the traditional data centre server models that are on-prem. Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) also provides this ability to scale containers per demand as required, as well as create replicas.
